I say, only something committed to reality can be the first reason. The universe is not bound by reality since any part of it can cease to exist. The universe itself can also cease to exist entirely. There is no logical necessity for the universe to exist, and certainly not for its familiar existence with its present properties.
Therefore, the existence of the universe, both limited and defined, requires a reason to exist and be as it is. In contrast, GOD, who is not limited and is perceived as infinite, perfect and eternal, can be bound by reality, and thus is the first cause. While this argument proves only the existence of GOD, no attributes can be attributed to him based on the discussion other than him being the first reason for the existence of the universe. But this is a starting point from which one can move on.
I assume that GOD is the first cause and not the universe in this way. The universe is not bound to reality and logically doesn’t need to exist. GOD, however, is bound by reality, and if he ceases, everything ceases. My assumption proves there is a GOD, but doesn’t prove if the GOD is good or evil.
